THE WORLD
Set in a post-war English girls’ boarding school, Malory Towers pairs Toronto-built interiors with British exteriors. As Set Decorator for Season One, I helped establish the school’s visual tone through its furnishings, textures, and everyday details. Moving into Production Design for Seasons Two through Four, I oversaw substantial reconstruction after a studio relocation, integrating retained set elements with new construction and reconfiguring the school’s interiors within a new studio footprint.
That firsthand experience allowed me to implement a range of improvements I had envisioned during Season One, building on the established design while refining the school’s world. One refinement was a stronger visual connection to the English landscape beyond the windows. New additions—including the Secret Room, an upstairs hallway, and the older girls’ dormitory—expanded storytelling possibilities while preserving the school’s familiar character: a shared home shaped by tradition, friendship, and discovery. When the interiors transferred to the UK for Season Five, I worked with the UK design team to support the transition and maintain continuity with the visual world we had established in Canada.
